Any recommendations for a good video editor? I've looked before and tried various ones (one from Adobe and one from Sony) but they're always just so focused on transition effects and complicated timelines and things like that. And have bad/complicated interfaces. I really just need something to cut out certain parts of a movie, to where I select a start and end point, click Cut and it's gone. Then I save it when I'm done. The key thing though is that it needs to support a lot of formats. I don't think any that I tried ever did. I usually use VirtualDub which is very simple and very easy to use, but it doesn't support MP4.

i use nero for burning, but never used their video editor.
avidemux got the job done. it left a second of video messed up where i cut it, but it's not too bad.

windows movie maker is good for that, it has minimal editing software and relatively easy to understand functions. yea i hear you on all that other stuff

you need a degree to understand it

Movie Maker only lets you save in 3 formats (WMV, MPEG i think, and some other one)

Yea, use that.
If you use a program that doesn't save into many different files, you can convert it using
format factory
